YouTube Embed Block
Learn everything about the YouTube Embed Block on your Indiegraf site in this help article.
Inserting a Video or Audio File
At Indiegraf, we do not support uploading video or audio files directly to your site’s media library. Instead, the recommended approach is to first upload your file to a trusted third-party platform, such as YouTube or Vimeo.
Once your media is uploaded, you can:
-
Copy the embed code provided by YouTube or Vimeo.
-
Paste it into an Embed Block or the HTML Block in your WordPress post.

Why Use the Embed Block?
-
Safety: Embedding keeps large files off your server, reducing security risks.
-
Performance: Pages load faster because only the player is loaded, not the full media file.
-
Reliability: Embedded content is managed by YouTube or Vimeo, which handle streaming and playback issues.
Tip: If you try to paste a YouTube or Vimeo URL directly into a video block, WordPress will automatically convert it into an embed block. This may change the options available in the settings sidebar.
What Works in a YouTube Embed
When you embed a YouTube video on your post, you’re essentially loading just the video player from YouTube. Most interactive features outside the video itself won’t transfer.
Here’s a breakdown:
✅ Features that do transfer / work:
-
Video playback: The video itself plays normally.
-
Controls: Play, pause, volume, captions (if available), full screen, and progress bar.
-
Quality settings: Users can usually adjust the resolution.
-
Annotations & end screens: Any YouTube annotations or end screens are visible.
-
Captions/subtitles: Appear if the video includes them.
-
YouTube branding: The YouTube logo and a link back to the video appear.
❌ Features that don’t transfer / aren’t available:
-
Live chat: Chat from live streams will not appear.
-
Community posts or comments: YouTube comments are not embedded.
-
YouTube notifications or subscription prompts: Pop-ups like “subscribe” or notification bells don’t appear.
-
Analytics/engagement tracking: Views, likes, and other metrics aren’t visible to users.
-
Interactive cards: Clickable polls or links may not work.
-
Video chapters in the timeline: Chapter markers appear visually, but clicking them may behave differently than on YouTube.
