How do I export payment data via Stripe?
A guide on exporting contribution data into a CSV file via Stripe or RevEngine, particularly for NewsMatch reporting requirements.
Throughout the year, you might need to export your payment data for a variety of reasons, including end-of-year NewsMatch reporting. You can do this by performing a Stripe Export.
Your Stripe dashboard will only show contributions you collected through News Revenue Engine. If you’ve used other platforms that to collect donations, either in the past or currently, that revenue won’t be included in this table.
Using Stripe to export data
Stripe allows you to customize your export by adjusting the time zone, date range, and columns of data shown.
All payments from the checkout page are logged in Stripe, and each contains your contributor’s contact information which you’ll need for reporting:
- Log into Stripe and select Payments to find all customers who recently made a payment to your newsroom. From there, click on the Export button.
- In the Date range section, select Custom and along with a range. This is especially important if you are exporting your data as a part of NewsMatch reporting (filter contributions from Nov 1 thru Dec 31).
- In the Columns section, select the Default option and then submit by clicking Export again.
- You will receive a CSV file, which you can choose to have sent via email or download directly. If this takes a long time to load, don’t worry, you’re likely receiving a lot of data.
Alternatively, you can export your payment data through your RevEngine dashboard.
If you are performing your Stripe export as a part of NewsMatch reporting, see this documentation for next steps!
