How do I edit the address fields on my contribution page?
Learn how to make address fields optional or required in RevEngine, customize Stripe payment settings, and understand the value of address data.
While we recommend that you require all address fields on your contribution page, we recognize that every newsroom has different data collection needs. In this guide, learn more about how you can customize these fields.
Making address fields optional, required
Our payment processor, Stripe, requires that all payments are made with a zip / postal code and country included. By default, all fields are required, but you may choose to make all other fields (street address, city, state) optional:
- Login to RevEngine
- Enter the page editor by selecting your page in the dashboard
- Within the Layout tab, select the Edit button of the Contributor Address
- Select Optional or Required as your address preference as desired
- Update your configuration and save your page using the Save page icon
Removing additional address fields
To create a more streamlined giving experience, remove all fields (except the zip/postal code and country, which are required by Stripe):
- Login to RevEngine
- Enter the page editor by selecting your page in the dashboard
- Select the checkbox Include zip/postal code and country only (exclude all other address fields)
- Update your configuration and save your page using the Save page icon
Why do we suggest you require all address fields?
Address data is a critical tool to engage your supporters and strengthen your reader revenue program. If you have a major donor program, or ever plan to have one, you will need address data for wealth-screening purposes. Even if you do not have a major donor program now, you don’t want to begin gathering this information when you decide to start the program. Instead, you can get a jump on what could be a defining revenue decision for your organization.
You can view and export your contributors' address data in your contributions dashboard.
If your newsroom offers swag through member benefits, you must make all address fields required on your contribution page.
