Learn how you can stay compliant with Canadian anti-spam laws.

Updated over a month ago

When you are sending out campaigns, two content fields are mandatory:

In the absence of these fields, they will be automatically included in the footer of your email. Our goal here is to explain the importance of these fields and show you how to enter them manually if you don't mind.

Why this is important

This content is required to meet the standards outlined by Canada's anti-spam legislation, which aims to protect people from unsolicited emails and strengthen good email marketing practices. Adding these fields will also help you maintain high open rates and engagement.

How to properly include this required content in your email campaigns

Mandatory physical address

[CLIENTS.ADDRESS]

Senders are responsible for including a physical address in all electronic communications they send, whether it's a street address (or civic address), a post office box, or a general delivery address (such as a mail forwarding service) that is valid for a minimum of 60 days after the message has been sent.

To add the physical address, follow this guide.

Mandatory unsubscribe link

[UNSUBSCRIBE]

You must make it easy for people to opt out of a campaign. This is done by manually including an unsubscribe link. Otherwise, our platform will automatically include a said link in the footer.

If you would like to add this unsubscribe link, please follow this guide.

How this applies to everyone

All marketers sending emails to or from Canada are affected by this bill. So, if you're sending an email, please keep in mind that this bill applies to all senders (regardless of whether they're in Canada or not). When your recipients check their email, you can't be sure where they are. To protect you (and us), we adhere to this law. In addition to this law, we also follow CAN-SPAM and recommend that you read up on your country’s anti-spam laws.

Mobile and desktop versions

The required content must appear on both the desktop and mobile versions of your campaign. You can show or hide blocks in our email designer on mobile devices. If you choose to optimize your email for mobile, you'll need to ensure you aren't hiding the required content on either of these formats.

Each of our templates includes two unsubscribe links by default:

  • 1 for the desktop version

  • 1 for the mobile version

So, if you remove either of them, our system will automatically add the respective one back into the email footer.
