What is the portal?

The RevEngine portal lets contributors manage giving history, update credit cards, and recurring donations using a secure magic link.

The RevEngine contributor portal is where your contributors can review their giving history, cancel recurring contributions, and the credit card they have on file for payments. The portal reflects all payments that were made on RevEngine. Contributors seeking to manage payments through other systems, like PayPal, should use those tools instead.

What can contributors do in their portal

Here’s what users can do in their portal:

  1. View a record of past and active transactions, summary of giving to-date
  2. Cancel recurring (monthly or yearly) contributions
  3. Update the cardholder name and number of the credit card on file for recurring contributions
  4. Resend themselves receipts for any payments made, for organizations that send receipts through RevEngine.
  5. Find links routing them back to your main page and contribution page
  6. View your contact information (phone and support email)
  7. Update the amount on any active subscriptions (Core and RevEngine + Salesforce feature)

Coming soon

Contributors will soon unlock the ability to update subscription frequencies and toggle the inclusion of Stripe fees on future charges.

  • If a contributor encounters any issues updating an active subscription, let us know! But please be aware that the likely best option involves canceling their existing subscription and setting up a new one with the desired changes.
  • The portal only contains contributions made on RevEngine. Donors who support your organization via checks or PayPal will not show up, even if you use our Salesforce integration.

What contributors cannot do in the portal

Contributors can NOT make the following changes in the portal:

  1. Change the frequency / cadence of subscriptions (coming soon)
  2. Toggle the payment of Stripe fees on their active subscriptions (coming soon)
  3. Change the email address tied with their payment
  4. Pause a recurring contribution for a period of time
  5. Resume a canceled contribution
  6. Schedule a cancellation at some point in the future
  7. Schedule a contribution to start in the future
  8. Consolidate two separate recurring contributions into one

In each of these cases, contributors will need to cancel their recurring contribution and set up a new one.

Stripe is not a workaround for portal / RevEngine limitations.

Please review this article before modifying any payments on Stripe.

How to access the portal

Contributors will never need to memorize a password to access their portal. To login, all they need is the link to your portal.

We encourage you to publish the portal link widely to make it easy for your supporters to find. You can include it on your contribution page, or on any collateral membership pages you host on your own website, such as an FAQ guide. You can also share it individually with contributors as needed.

Here’s a message you can use for contributors who reach out with questions over email:

Here’s a link to our contributor portal. You don’t need to create an account - you only need to provide the email address that you used to make your contribution. Once you enter that, our system will email you a magic link that you’ll use to access your portal.

This link is just for you and, for security reasons, it will expire 15 minutes after it’s issued. The next time you need to access the portal, you’ll follow the same steps to generate a new magic link.

Once you’re in the portal, you can see your transaction history, change your payment method, and cancel recurring donations.

How contributors view and modify contributions

After logging in, contributors will have an at-a-glance view of all their active and ongoing contributions to your newsroom.

Contributors can sort or filter their transactions if needed. To get more information or take actions on a payment, they must click on the payment record.

In an expanded detail view, contributors will see options to cancel a subscription, update their card’s name and number, or resend themselves a receipt.

If a contributor choses to either update their payment method or cancel a subscription, they will receive a confirmation email letting them know that their change was completed successfully.

Emails

Your supporters will receive an email every time that they use the portal to

  • update the amount of their subscription (Core and RevEngine + Salesforce users)
  • cancel an ongoing recurring contribution
  • send themselves receipts for subscriptions
  • update their billing information (name or payment method)

Branding

If you are on either the Core or RevEngine + Salesforce plans, your portal will be styled to match the branding of your default page.
