Live Blog (Beta)
How to Enable and Manage Live Updates for Fast-Moving Events
You can now enable liveblogs on your articles. Liveblog is a real-time publishing format that allows you to add timely updates on your articles. You can use it to cover fast-moving events such as breaking news, elections, sporting events, natural disasters, or major announcements.
- First, publish the main post that you would like to enable live blog on. You can choose to add content to the main section of your post, or leave the post editor empty, so that your live blog entries appear directly below the post title.
You can choose to manually add a designation in your post title to indicate that the post is being updated, for example: “LIVE:” - Open the Metabox at the bottom of the post editor. In the “Liveblog” section, click the “Enable” button.
This will enable you to add updates to your post - You have to publish the updates directly from the article page while logged in (both desktop and mobile).
They will appear below your main post content, above the sharing icons.
The updates will appear under the main article in descending order: the most recent update will appear first.
Each post allows for a maximum of 100 live blog entries.
The “new entry” content editor will be hidden to your site visitors. - You can add text, images, links, quotes, and some embeds to your entries.
If you would like to add images, you have to upload them from your device. You can’t select images from your existing website’s gallery. After you select your image, you can also choose to crop it before adding it to your update.
When you upload an image, it will take a few seconds to appear in the content editor. The image icon will be greyed out to signify that it is being uploaded.
You can add Youtube videos to your entries. You do not have to paste an embed code for the video preview to appear. Simply paste in the Youtube URL from the visual editor. Make sure that it is separated by hard line breaks (press the “Return” key before and after the URL).
Social embeds like X and Instagram don’t work for now, but Bluesky does. - You can select the author of the liveblog. Currently, the feature won’t work with guest authors.
- When you would like to close the post to new live blog entries, you can click the “Archive” button in the post editor Metabox. Your website visitors will still see the existing entries, but the "new entry" editor will be hidden to logged in users.
If you archive the live blog, the main section of the post content can
