How to Add Authors to a Post
Step-by-step guide to add single or multiple authors to posts—setup user accounts, assign roles, and display names in the byline.
Step 1: Create a User Account for Each Author
Before you can assign an author to a post, you need to create a user account for them in your site’s back-end.
To create a new user:
-
Log in to your site’s back end.
-
From the main menu, navigate to Users.
-
Click Add New User.

Important notes about creating a new user:
-
The only required fields are:
-
Username (this cannot be changed later)
-
Email Address
-
Password
-
-
Choosing the right user role:
-
We recommend assigning the lowest necessary role for each user to maintain site security.
-
For authors, the Author or Contributor role is ideal:
-
Author: Can create and publish their own posts.
-
Contributor: Can create posts but cannot publish them without approval.
-
-
Avoid giving higher access roles like Editor unless absolutely necessary, as this role allows for broad site changes.
-
💡 Tip for collective author names:
If you want to publish a post under a group name (e.g. Board Members, Education Department), create a user account specifically for that collective name. You can then assign this account as the post’s author, and it will appear as such on the front end.
Step 2: Add Authors to a Post
Once the user accounts are created, you can assign them as authors to any post.
To add one or multiple authors to a post:
-
Go to the post’s back-end editor.
-
In the right-hand menu, ensure you’re on the Post tab.
-
Scroll to the Authors section at the top of the menu.
-
Use the Search for an author drop-down field to find and select the author’s name.
-
Repeat this step for each additional author you’d like to add to the post.

Step 3: Save Changes and View the Byline
After adding the authors:
-
Save the changes as a Draft or Publish it.
-
On the front end of your website, the authors’ names will appear in the post’s byline, along with the category and publish date.
👀 Please note:
The word "By" that appears in front of the author’s name in the byline is part of the site’s standard design and cannot be removed.
