How do contributors access the contributor portal?
RevEngine's portal uses secure, expiring magic links instead of passwords so donors can self-manage gifts, billing, and history.
Anyone who makes a contribution through RevEngine will gain access to our contributor portal - a dashboard where they can view their past and upcoming contributions, update payment methods, and cancel recurring contributions. Contributors can access the portal through a secure magic link that RevEngine will send them via email.
We encourage you to publish your contributor portal link widely to make it easy for your supporters to find. You can include it on your contribution page, or on any collateral membership pages you host on your own website, such as an FAQ guide. You can also share it individually with contributors as needed.
No passwords - just magic
The contributor portal doesn’t require a unique username and password. When a user clicks a link to the contributor portal, they’ll be prompted to enter their email address. RevEngine will send them an email with a magic link that lets them access their dashboard. Magic links are also attached to in payment confirmation emails.
This link expires 15 minutes after it’s issued to protect user security. Contributors will need to request a fresh link each time they want to access the dashboard.
How to help a contributor access their portal
To help a contributor access their portal, you’ll need to provide them with your organization’s portal link. You can find this in your RevEngine account.
- Sign in to your RevEngine dashboard
- Click on any of your contribution pages to open it
- Click on the Grab Link button on the top bar of your page editor
- You will be shown links to your live Contribution Page and the Contributor Portal.
- Click Copy next to the Contributor Portal Link. Once you have the link, you can send it to contributors.
Multi-property newsrooms
A few large newsrooms have several properties, or ‘revenue programs'. If your newsroom falls into this category, please note that each of your properties treats payments separately and therefore there each property’s contributor portal (and link) is unique.
As an example, users will not be able to view their contributions to Property A if you send them the link to the portal of Property B.
Please exercise to ensure that you send portal links corresponding to each property.

Here’s a link to our contributor portal. You don’t need to create an account - you only need to provide the email address that you used to make your contribution. Once you enter that, our system will email you a magic link that you’ll use to access your portal.
This link is just for you and, for security reasons, it will expire 15 minutes after it’s issued. The next time you need to access the portal, you’ll follow the same steps to generate a new magic link.
Once you’re in the portal, you can see your transaction history, change your payment method, and cancel recurring gifts.
Why share the contributor portal link?
The contributor portal allows contributors to self-manage their payments. This eliminates some of the more tedious upkeep that can come with manually managing a reader revenue program.
By sharing the contributor portal link with readers, you allow them to:
- View their giving history to your newsroom
- Cancel their own recurring payments
- Change the name and credit card used on recurring contributions
- Send themselves receipts for previous and ongoing transactions
- NEW: Raise or lower the amount on any active subscriptions
This saves you time so that you and your staff to focus on what’s really important: producing high-quality journalism.
