In this article, you will learn about how these transactional emails are sent from RevEngine, and how they can be sent manually. Screenshots provided are examples of what these communications look like.
Receipts
Receipts are automatically sent for one-time and recurring contributions after a successful payment is made. These receipts thank the contributor for their gift, confirm their payment, and provide useful tax information. These receipts are only sent for organizations that send these communications through RevEngine. These receipts do not apply to organizations who send receipts through Salesforce (if on our RevEngine + Salesforce plan).
- Your organization’s name and a general “thank you” message
- A link to the Contributor Portal. For more information, see What is the contributor portal?
- Contribution details such as the amount and date of the charge, the email address provided, the frequency of billing if payment is a recurring contribution, and your organization’s Tax ID (EIN number)
Scheduled payment reminders
Contributors making annual recurring contributions (subscriptions) are sent an email reminder 3-7 days prior to renewal. This reminder is not sent for monthly subscriptions.
Scheduled payment reminders contain the same details as a regular receipt and inform the contributor of their upcoming billing date.
Cancelation emails
Contributors will receive an email notifying of a canceled contribution should they actively cancel the donation in the contributor portal, or if their contribution is canceled due to payment failure.
Subscription updates emails
Contributors can use the portal to update their ongoing payments and will be notified after making any changes. These emails can also serve as tax receipts. These emails are sent for any organization on RevEngine.
Your supporters will get a confirmation email every time they:
- update the amount of their subscription (for Core and RevEngine + Salesforce users)
- update their billing information (name or payment method)

Other emails
RevEngine also sends emails to individuals when they request a magic link to access the contributor portal, where they can see a history of their payments and make changes depending on your RevEngine plan. These emails provide a link that allows the individual to access the portal seamlessly. Like most industry “magic link” emails, these links do not persist and provide access for perpetuity and will expire, in most cases, within 15 minutes, assuming that the email does not get caught in spam or other filtering within individual email inboxes.
