Pelcro - How to Create a Subscription

Learn how Pelcro & Indie Websites makes creating and managing reader subscriptions flexible and easy for you and your readers.

Updated over a week ago

Subscriptions can be created on Pelcro when readers (customers) complete their sign-up process through your website or manually through the Pelcro platform.

When creating a subscription, you need to create a new customer account first so the customer can control if they want to unsubscribe:

Once complete, select the new customer to create a new subscription:

To manually create a subscription through the Pelcro Platform:

  1. On the Subscriptions page, click on "New" on the top right-hand side of the page

  2. You will then be prompted to select an existing customer to create a new subscription for them.

  3. Once a customer has been selected, you will choose the existing product your customer will subscribe to.

  4. It's important to note that when taxes are enabled for the customer account, you will have to provide the customer's address information or select an existing address from the saved addresses (even if the address is not required for the product of choice).

  5. Next, you will then fill out the Payment Method. Select different payment methods, such as credit card payment, offline payment, or directly invoice the customer.

  6. Finally, click "Start Subscription" to save the provided information and activate the subscription.

You can optionally:

  • Add a coupon to apply a discount.

  • Edit or remove the trial period for this subscription.

  • Gift a subscription to the customer. Please note this is only applicable if the gift feature is supported for the customer. If so, you will need to fill out the fields under the "Gift" section for the recipient's name, email address, and start date.

How do I create a new invoice?

Often, readers update their payment information after a failed payment (e.g. due to CC expiry) but if the credit card was changed after the invoice was created, Stripe won’t charge the new credit card — it will continue to try billing the old one.

To fix that, Stripe’s support recommend you to cancel the invoice and create a new one for the new credit card. Here’s a step by step on Stripe. Stripe also suggests to ask the customer remove their old card first before they can attempt to pay the new invoice.
